| WHAT'S UP WITH MICHAEL LOHAN By Glenn Andreiev |
April 25, 2007 Michael Lohan, the father of pop-star Lindsay Lohan, clearly enjoys his new work as a minister, helping to make the world a better place for troubled teens and people looking to patch up their lives. I first contacted Mr. Lohan in early 2007 while he was in Collins Correctional Facility in upstate New York. I asked him if he would make a brief appearance as an actor in my upcoming feature film, King Tyrant. He wrote back, and explained his entry into the ministry, stating “As long as the screenplay does not offend God, I can do it.” I first met Michael the night he was released from Collins during a private get-together of family and relatives at his sister’s home in Huntington, Long Island. He was filled with energy, ready to face all obstacles. (This is fitting, because I wish to cast him as a highly energetic entrepreneur.) I was happy to see he arrived there with Joe Spallino, who I remember as the Music Pastor for Long Island Teen Challenge. (I was hired to videotape one of their Christmas events a few years back.) Long Island Teen Challenge doesn’t just say they fix troubled lives, they do it. As their website states, they “offer aid, support and free residential care to men, women and families suffering life-controlling problems with drugs, alcohol and crime. Prevention, intervention, and residential programs target families and children “at risk”, helping them to become mentally sound, emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, physically well, and spiritually alive. Assistance (a hand-up, not a hand-out) is provided without regard to race, social background, religion or creed.” Michael showed me literature stating 86.6 % of Teen Challenge’s graduates remain drug and crime free. Cynics out there can say, “Oh well, Michael Lohan has to work as a minister, he’s out of prison and he has no choice…” The cynics have not seen what I have seen in the past few weeks, every time I meet with Michael. The news media, gossip columnists, and supermarket tabloids still wish to remain a fountain of misinformation when it comes to Michael Lohan. They love painting that negative picture. If only they could see, or dare report, what I have been seeing firsthand.
